The big question that everyone wants to know more about! Climate change has been major news point over the past decade or so. But what is climate change? Are we going to be living in desert like environments or below zero temperatures?
Climate change, the science
Global warming and climate change are two different things. Global warming is a causing factor towards climate change, so don’t get the two mixed up!
I found this diagram which gives a great annotation on the processes which causes global warming (simple but effective). The left shows how naturally we would generate heat from solar radiation reflection and the atmosphere (the greenhouse effect). The right shows the introduction of burning fossil fuels which increases the rate of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and in-turn increases the temperature in the atmosphere.

Should we be concerned about climate change?
Well, looking at the Earth’s history from billions of years, we know that the climate has changed majorly. The climate changes from very cold to very hot conditions naturally. So really, climate change shouldn’t be an issue? Well yes, it shouldn’t be, but the concern is at the rate at which the climate is changing. The changes in climate and temperature which would normally transpire over thousands of years, is now occurring within decades (which is worrying)! Plants and trees are very important and a key component towards climate change as they are able to remove CO2 from the air and therefore reduce greenhouse gasses.
The ultimatum
Climate change and global warming is evident, and it is something that naturally happens. However, the concern is the rate at which it is happening and how we can tolerate it. We do need to be more sustainable, environmentally friendly and introduce a low carbon footprint in all countries. Using renewable energy and material is key and understanding where and how to be sustainable is very important. The media sometimes take things to an extreme point a view when really it is all just natural!
Climate change and global warming is real and happening at an alarming rate, we as individuals can make that change and make a better place for our world!
